Ugly Duck's creative call out is close!

Every 6 months Ugly Duck seeks creative projects to take place in our spaces. We manage our arts programme in this way so that we can build a well-rounded programme of events.

We programme a diverse range of projects, and whilst we work closely with artists, we are also keen to see submissions from groups in other disciplines including but not limited to architecture; science, information and technology; social sciences; activism. We are interested in projects that involve audiences in new and dynamic ways, work across disciplines, and educate and advocate for social, political and environmental change.

Applications are judged by a panel including Ugly Duck staff, and three renowned guest curators. For the last season we had the chance to have David Sabel from London Theatre Company, Ghislaine Boddington from body>data>space and Susie Thornberry from Artichoke.

In general, we allocate the successful applicants part of the building for a full weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Collaborators have the option to pay £500+VAT for the weekend hire (or £750+VAT if your project requires the whole building), run a box office split, with Ugly Duck getting 40% of ticket sales. This is to cover electricity, heating, staffing and promotion of the event. For a free public event (e.g exhibition) we wouldn’t ask you to pay a fee, we’ll run a bar during the event and we might pair you with a play if applicable.
Ugly Duck helps to promote the events, though the oncoming project is expected to be responsible for the bulk of marketing.
