NARRATING STRUCTURES: VIDEOMAPPING WORKSHOP – SuMMER 2024

Narrating Structures is a projection mapping workshop led by Dr Blanca Regina and assisted by Pierre Bouvier Patron.

Throughout a hands-on weekend workshop, we introduce projection art, video mapping and multimedia design.

We will look at diverse techniques for producing audiovisual projections in architectural spaces and objects and their application in artistic and creative practice.

This workshop is for artists, graphic designers, architects, and anybody interested.

Suitable for beginners and intermediates; we adapt to different levels.

PROGRAMME
The 2-day workshop is presented in sections with hands-on practice.

1st Session >> Saturday
– Introduction to the mentors and presentation of their work in this field.
– Study multiple video mapping projects.

– Introduction to MadMapper 5
– Hands-on
– Projection mapping on different surfaces.
– Hands-on

2nd Session >> Sunday
– Recap and Questions.
– Technical specifications.
– Syphon and multimedia design,
– Introduction to Key, Midi, and OSC Controls with MadMapper.
– Hands-on
(Lunch break)
– Creating content and live techniques for performances and installations.
– Creation and presentation of a specific project.
– Hands-on
– Short demos by participants and closing considerations.

At the end of this workshop you will be able to:
– Create various projections simultaneously
– Shape light into objects and spaces
– Learn how to produce your mapping project.
– Project management and networking with local and international communities.

Tech requirements:

Oriented to Mac and PC users.
Bring your computer with a mini display/USB-C to HDMI port adaptors if you use a Mac.
A Mac laptop with Osx 10.7 is recommended. 10.6 is not supported.

This workshop provides one projector per student and includes a 1-month full access temporal license of MadMapper and entitles the participants to an educational discount on MadMapper software purchases.

** You can bring also If you have, a MIDI controller, projector, model/shape you want to map on, or Minimad). If you need to rent any equipment (computer) for the workshop please do get in touch.

About the mentor
Blanca Regina www.whiteemotion.com

Dr Blanca Regina Pérez-Bustamante is an artist, independent curator, and educator based in London. She is currently creating audiovisual performances, sound works, installations, and films. Her research and practice encompass video mapping, sound art, moving images, performance, and multimedia events.

She has taught more than 30 video mapping workshops worldwide including Ugly Duck since 2018 in London. In 2019, she developed the research project ‘ Immersive Pipeline’ at Goldsmiths University, looking at immersive audiovisual environments and translating artworks to multiple digital formats. She is the founder of Unpredictable Series and has curated a series of sound and visual art events in London at Cafe OTO, OTO Projects, Iklectik, Ray’s Jazz at Foyles, Waterstones, and Portland Hall (CREAM/the University of Westminster). Supporters of our projects include Cream, Crisap, Sound & Music, and Arts Council England.

She is currently a lecturer at Ravensbourne University, London. From 2014 to 2021 she was an associate lecturer at the Event and Experience Design department at the University of Kent. From 2011-to 2014 she was visiting research fellow at Chelsea College of Arts & Design at the University of the Arts London. In 2010, she received a doctorate in Humanities from University Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid, with the thesis: The VJ and audiovisual performance: towards a radical aesthetic of postmodernism.

Pierre Bouvier Patron

Pierre Bouvier Patron is a visual artist based in London. He is currently working with different media, such as digital video and film, exploring the boundaries between them and creating moving image works, performances, and installations. He has developed various practices and skills in experimental film, documentary films, music videos, etc.

He is involved in video screenings and video performances, solo or in collaboration, with musicians such as Syd Kemp, Steve Beresford, Neil Charles, and artist Blanca Regina, among others. His work has been shown in France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, etc.

His latest works include Unpredictable: Conversations with Improvisers, a series of 12 videos about improvisers in the UK, and music videos for Ben Marc. His work also includes extensive participation with collectives such as Unpredictable Series, Strange Umbrellas, and several festivals such as Sonic Waterloo, Art of Improvisers, and Alterations Festivals.
