COURTAULD LGBTQIA+ SOCIETY – ‘CRAFTING OURSELVES’

18 February 22 - 20 February 22

‘CRAFTING OURSELVES’

In collaboration with Ugly Duck, Courtauld LGBTQIA+ Society is staging a 3-day event of LGBTQIA+ craft

From We’wha’s Native American textiles, to Bloomsbury Group ceramics, to t-shirts dyed by the Lavender Menace, craft has long been a key part of LGBTQIA+ visibility, creativity, identity and community. To further this, we are organising a free and accessible showcase of LGBTQIA+ crafts, which will provide opportunities for artistic interactions between underrepresented artists and Ugly Duck’s community of visitors, with the aim of enhancing intersectional LGBTQIA+ solidarities.

The show will be opening on the Friday at 6-9PM and will be open both Saturday and Sunday at 9AM-6PM. For the event’s exhibition, the Courtauld LGBTQIA+ Society’s Committee are selecting a broad range of artworks—everything from textile works to ceramics to papercrafts—that contribute to ‘crafting’ LGBTQIA+ identities and communities. As well as the art works on display, they will have an interactive mural that visitors will be invited to add to (with collage materials supplied) throughout the three days. They are also planning on hosting a little workshop and film screening at some point during the weekend (details TBC).

The Courtauld LGBTQIA+ Society is an intersectional space and platform for students to discuss issues that are important to our queer, trans and intersex lives. Anyone can come and enjoy our wide range of events – from talks held by professional queer curators to less formal Queer Art Show and Tell evenings, to even less formal wine-fuelled socials and film screenings. The society has been going for five years now and we can’t wait to welcome you to this supportive community
